A Message from our Artistic Producing Director—Ralph B. Peña
Greetings Friends and Patrons:I’m thrilled to let you know that KPOP received nine Lucille Lortel Award nominations (the most of any show), including Best Musical, and a nomination for The Drama League‘s Outstanding Production of a Broadway or Off-Broadway Musical. We’re proud of the entire creative team, and our producing partners Ars Nova and Woodshed Collective.I know many of you had a hard time getting tickets to KPOP even after it extended its run, because of high demand. We don’t want that to happen to you again.
Our next play, Teenage Dick, is a hilarious and very relevant spin on Shakespeare’sRichard III, set in an American high school. It’s written by Michael Lew (Tiger Style), and directed by Tony-nominated director Moritz von Stuelpnagel (Hand to God, and Present Laughter on Broadway). Starring Gregg Mozgala, Lortel nominee for Best Actor for Cost of Living, Teenage Dick, repackages Shakespeare’s most infamous disabled villain into a high school student with mild cerebral palsy, who decides to run for the student council. It is a modern tale of ambition, power, and runaway hormones.
When Teenage Dick, was workshopped at the Public Theater in 2016, it sold out its entire workshop run in a matter of days, and since then, audiences have been waiting for its premiere.
Ma-Yi is partnering with The Public Theater to bring the world premiere of this amazing play to New York City in June 2018. We don’t always have shows that sell out, but there is a big demand for Teenage Dick, and as a valued member of the Ma-Yi Theater family, we don’t want you to be left out.
Trust me on this, you have to see this play.
We have negotiated a special discount for our friends, which will not last forever. Please take advantage of it now to secure your seats, and save money at the same time.
